On-Screen Keyboards
On most tablets plugging in a USB keyboard (or a USB input device with a USB HID keyboard endpoint - like an X-keys) will disable the on-screen keyboard. Using a configuration with no keyboard endpoint preserves the functionality of the on-screen keyboard. If both on-screen and keyboard endpoint are required, many mobile devices have methods to accommodate this. Here are two methods we suggest.
Android
- Go to Settings->Language & Input -> Defaults
- Go to the Choose Input Method dialogue
- Slide the Hardware Physical Keyboard setting from On to Off
The user will need to repeat this procedure if the tablet is restarted or the USB device is reconnected.
iOS
A multimedia Eject command will toggle the on-screen keyboard. This can be programmed into an X-keys device with mobile features. See the current list here: X-keys Mobile.
