On-Screen Keyboards

On most tablets plugging in a USB keyboard (or a USB input device with a USB HID keyboard endpoint - like an X-keys) will disable the on-screen keyboard. Using a configuration with no keyboard endpoint preserves the functionality of the on-screen keyboard. If both on-screen and keyboard endpoint are required, many mobile devices have methods to accommodate this. Here are two methods we suggest.

Android

  1. Go to Settings->Language & Input -> Defaults
  2. Go to the Choose Input Method dialogue
  3. Slide the Hardware Physical Keyboard setting from On to Off

The user will need to repeat this procedure if the tablet is restarted or the USB device is reconnected.

iOS

A multimedia Eject command will toggle the on-screen keyboard. This can be programmed into an X-keys device with mobile features. See the current list here:.
