ETC
X-keys and ETC (Electronic Theatre Controls) have a long and happy relationship. ETC users program key combinations in to the X-keys and use these to trigger functions in various ETC programs like Eos, Ion, and Nomad.

Typically the X-keys is programmed with hotkey combinations in hardware mode to match the hotkeys supported by the ETC software. ETC even offers script files and free legends for their customers. Go here for the script files and more information:

A number of examples of X-keys controlling GrandMA lighting software may also be found on the internet. Similar to ETC, GrandMA can be controlled with an X-keys programmed with hotkeys.
